What is City Lions?
The City Lions programme brings together 13- to 16-year-olds and creative professionals and organisations, with the intention of broadening their horizons, improving personal, social and economic social wellbeing.
The programme is specifically designed to improve young people’s self-worth and aspirations, by supporting them in reaching their potential through engagement and education, to inspiring them in their futures whilst equipping them with transferable skills such as confidence and creative thinking.
Through a variety of activities, City Lions also supports young people to develop the essential skills they require for a successful future by providing them with the opportunity to learn from creative professionals via workshops, mentoring programmes and work experience opportunities and other fun activities.
City Lions has so far managed to engage over 2,000 young people within Westminster and this figure continues to grow as we enter our fourth year of the programme.
Our history:
The City Lions programme is currently in its fourth year of delivery and intends to build on its successes to date. The original pilot programme, proposed by Cllr Nickie Aiken in 2018, was to provide opportunities for young people from Westminster to benefit from engagement in the arts and more specifically from those prestigious organisations on their doorstep, while also bridging the gap between young people and the creative and cultural sectors.
