Kew Youth Explainer Programme

The Kew Youth Explainer Programme is a free, year-long training and volunteering placement in science communication. During the first sixth months, participants will develop their understanding of Kew science and conservation, and gain skills in public engagement before designing their own tabletop games based on plants in Kew's glasshouse collections.

Kew is looking for nature-enthusiasts between the ages of 14-17 who have the commitment, resilience and passion that is required to succeed in our fully funded, award-winning science communication programme.

The right young person may never have visited Kew before. They could be looking to develop their confidence, communication and leadership skills or be nurturing a desire to learn about and protect our planet. Or they could be looking for a meaningful volunteering placement to complete their Bronze or Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award. This is a free programme and we particularly welcome applications from young people who are in receipt of free school meals.

The programme takes place each Saturday throughout the academic year, with breaks aligning with school term dates. Participants are expected to be able to attend at least 80% of the training programme between October and March, and complete at least 10 volunteering sessions between April and September.

The deadline for applications is Friday 7th October and our programme will commence during October half- term. Participants can apply by clicking on the link below.

Same Places, Different Perspectives Workshop

We are inviting you to join us on a special tour of the Royal Hospital Chelsea – as told from two different points of view and stories. Come and explore the grand buildings and consider the ideas and messages they hold. You will then have the opportunity to take part in a creative workshop, allowing you to explore your own connection to these stories. You will be able to create your own designs and models for installations or structures that could be used to fill spaces in the Hospital. The designs and models will be exhibited at an event at City Hall (Mayor of London) in November 2022.

Sessions available for 8th and 16th October.
